Mark Charney

Mark J. Charney is Director of the School of Theatre and Dance at Texas Tech University, and is also Professor Emeritus at Clemson University, having worked there for 27 years as Chair of English and Director of Theatre. He is author of the David Mark Cohen prize winning play, The Power Behind the Palette, and is also author of The Decameron Project which traveled to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. Charney also works as National Coordinator of Criticism and Dramaturgy for the Kennedy Center; is Associate Director of the National Critics Institute for the O’Neill Theatre Center; is Chair of the Playwriting and Creative Teams focus group for ATHE; and is on the national board of the National Association for Schools of Theatre. Mark also is the new playwright-in-residence for Two Beards, where his play Incline/Decline premiered in Austin this past February.
