Improvisation is an essential tool for every actor; yet many actors break into a cold sweat just thinking about going off-script! This gentle, friendly workshop is open to all levels of experience and will help performers use improv to achieve greater spontaneity on stage. If you find yourself “stuck” sometimes, wishing you could make truly bold choices - this is the class for you! Using techniques from top improv schools such as The Second City, Peoples Improv Theater, and Upright Citizens Brigade, actors will explore how to “live in the moment” more fully – embracing impulses, reacting truthfully, and building self-awareness. The workshop will begin with group warm-ups to explore the essential concept of “Yes, And,” followed by exercises focused on listening, making positive choices, and how to foster cooperation within an ensemble. Ultimately students will implement concepts through improvised scenes. The fundamental skills learned in this workshop will surely enhance an actor’s approach to scripted work, but can also apply to directing, teaching, and many other disciplines.
