#DontChangeTheWords: The Dramatists Guild and You is presented by Rebecca Gilman, Council member of the Dramatists Guild of America (the national association for playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists), in order to educate artists inside and outside the theater community about the importance of copyright and licensing agreements.  The fierceness of the Copyright Law may come as a shock to some, because the openness of the internet makes it feel like plays and musicals don’t have the protection given them by copyright.  But enforcing copyright takes every single one of us.  If you want to continue to perform the shows you love, and discover new shows by the artists you admire, and maybe even create something yourself one day, then we ALL have to obey the law.  In this session, you will learn about the Dramatists Guild and its 100-year history in fighting copyright infringement; the Dramatist’s Bill of Rights; authorial intent; and how you can anonymously report infringement wherever you see it.
